Junior Camp

Seasonal camp for juniors

A camp that runs to the school holidays. Four of the seven daily classes are one-to-one, and when class ends the stadium and the track are simply the playground. Fixed dates and fixed lengths, so the children who arrive together leave together.

Camps run on fixed dates for a fixed length. Everyone starts together and finishes together.

Sport

When class ends the campus becomes the playground. The stadium and 400m track built for the 2019 SEA Games are on the grounds, along with the pool, so nobody travels to train. Which sports run depends on the season and the group.

What each subject covers

Speaking (1:1)Pictures and stories to get them talking. With only the teacher and the child in the room, there is less falling silent for fear of getting it wrong.

Reading (1:1)They read material suited to their age and put it back into their own words.

Writing (1:1)From one sentence to one paragraph. What they learn during the day gets written down the same day.

Vocabulary (1:1)Starting with the words they will actually use at camp — activities, meals, talking with friends.

Listening (1:4)Four of them listen and answer together, at the pace of children the same age.

Grammar (1:4)Learned inside sentences rather than memorised as rules.

Discussion (1:8)Eight of them get together and exchange opinions. It is where they try out, in front of a group, what they learned in the 1:1 lessons.

An English-only policy applies on campus.

Can we join or leave partway through a session?

A camp starts and finishes on set dates, with everyone arriving and leaving together. If those dates do not fit, the regular Junior course, which starts every Monday, is the better option.

This is the first time my child will be away alone, and I am worried.

Lessons, daily life and activities all take place inside the campus. Supervision and pastoral arrangements differ from session to session, so at the consultation we explain them for the session you are looking at.

Can a guardian come along too?

When a guardian comes as well, that is the Family Camp. On that one, enrolling the guardian for lessons is optional.
