Baguio is a mountain city at 1,500m, but come down off the mountain and you reach the best-known surfing beach in the northern Philippines. Urbiztondo Beach in San Juan is well set up for beginners, and plenty of people stand up on the board the same day they first get on one. You don't have to ride anything — cafés run the length of the beach, and in season you can join a release of hatchling turtles.
18–22°C all year round. Baguio is about the only place in the Philippines where you play a round in short sleeves without soaking through. Camp John Hay Golf Club runs straight through the pine forest, and Baguio Country Club and Pinewoods are both within twenty minutes by car. Pinewoods and Camp John Hay apply a WALES student rate for rounds. You do not need to have held a club before — the indoor practice range at the Palace Hotel, just outside the school gate, includes club hire, and Camp John Hay has a driving range and lessons. A morning of lessons and an afternoon on the course is a workable day.
