What each subject covers

Speaking (1:1)You sit facing a teacher and keep talking. The teacher gives you a topic and corrects you on the spot wherever you get stuck.
Reading (1:1)You read a passage and put it into your own words. The lesson is not about finishing the reading; it is about getting what you read back out in speech.
Grammar (1:1)Not a lesson spent memorising a grammar book from page one. The rules are revisited through the sentences you have just got wrong while speaking.
Vocabulary (1:1)You build vocabulary topic by topic, and look at the sentences those words actually go into.
Writing (1:1)From one sentence to one paragraph. Corrections come there and then, not in the next lesson.
Listening (group)You listen to audio at natural speed and either write it down or answer questions on it. Nothing is read out slowly for you.
Discussion (group)You exchange opinions with the other students in the class. It is where you try out, in front of several people, the phrases you learned in the 1:1 lessons.
Pronunciation (group)Individual sounds, plus stress and intonation. When you are not understood, the reason is often pronunciation rather than grammar.

Frequently asked

Can I enrol if I can barely speak English?

Yes. We take students from CEFR A1 (beginner). A level test on your first day decides your class and your materials, so there is no need to bring your English up to a certain standard beforehand.

Intensive · Standard · Lite — which should I choose?

Choose by how many hours of class you can manage in a day. Intensive is 8 periods and runs into the evening; Lite is 4 periods, which leaves the afternoon free for self-study or going out. You can also ask about adjusting it after you arrive.

How many weeks should I stay?

There is no set minimum. Courses start every Monday and you stay for as many weeks as you want. That said, a visible change in your English takes time. Tell us your goal and how long you can be away, and we will settle on a realistic figure with you at the consultation.

Can I choose my one-to-one subjects?

You can choose up to two of your one-to-one subjects to match your goal. This is where a request like "I want to fix my grammar" or "I need writing urgently" gets acted on. The rest are assigned from your level test result.

Programs people mix up
Infinity vs Infinity PRO

Infinity is comprehensive ESL, working evenly across speaking, reading, grammar and writing. PRO is for intermediate and up, concentrating on the English of work — speaking, writing, presenting.

Infinity vs EEP

Infinity is balanced study, grammar and comprehension included. EEP is conversation-led, for anyone who wants to get comfortable in travel and everyday English quickly.

Junior vs the adult courses

Fifteen is the line. Under 15 you may only enrol on Junior (ESL from 7 to 14, IELTS from 12 to 14, English-only policy in force), and you cannot come without a guardian. From 15 you enrol on the adult courses and may come alone.

IELTS vs IELTS Guarantee

IELTS is general score improvement. Guarantee promises your target within 8 or 12 weeks — provided you keep 95% attendance and meet the homework and mock-exam conditions — and includes supervised evening study.

IELTS vs PTE

Both prepare you for a certified exam. IELTS is marked by people and recognised widely by universities and immigration. PTE is marked by computer, so results come back fast and test dates are flexible.
